Directly from Panasonic. At least in the U.S., anyway.

I went through the steps of offering up my S5, and the trade-in offer was about $400. Obviously, I could get more if I sold it privately, but when coupled with the $400 discount on a new S1II, it’s almost certainly a better deal than I could make happen by selling the camera myself (or to MBP etc) & paying full-price. And certainly less effort.

I wonder how long this offer will last? I've been toying with upgrading my GH7 to a S1II, and their trade-in price is the same as I would get from KEH where I normally sell my used gear. That plus the $400 discount makes it pretty attractive. The GH7 is my last M43 camera, so selling off my M43 lenses would push it to about break even. Hmm.

Good question. Another question: How long until they discount it $400 permanently? Maybe after the new A7 comes out? It is priced a bit high compared to the other 24-33 MP bodies.

I believe I saw it is supposed to last until around end of the year. Off the top of my head I can't remember if it was 12/24 or 12/31. It does seem B&H is also offering the same deal, though they seem more open to any working camera body for the discount while Panasonic offer does not. I tried putting in a Canon 30D I still have laying around and it said it wasn't eligible. B&H I would have had to actually submit the trade offer to make sure, but the offer did say any so...because I'd rather keep a hold of my S5 right now as a backup.

I would imagine sometime early next year it will either have a permanent price drop or start having frequent sale prices like they've done with the S5 models in the past where they are on sale every other month or so. I can understand its still the newest toy but solely on price it is way over what its closest-spec competitor, the Z6iii. It looks even worse right now since Nikon has heavily discounted for the holidays too.

I would be lying if I said I hadn't looked at what it would cost to switch since based on what some of the sale prices on other bodies are compared to an S1ii or S1rii. It's just the cost of replacing the 2.8 zooms that makes it unattractive. If Sony didn't have the artificial fps limiter it would be a lot easier since I'm pleased with my Sigmas and they would be much less of a hit to either sell/buy E or send to Sigma for mount conversions. I don't feel like taking a gamble that Nikon will allow Sigma a Z license, or if Canon will open theirs up to full frame lenses either.

It does seem B&H is also offering the same deal
As I understand the difference, Panasonic has a $400 discount for the new camera in addition to the trade-in of your used camera. Where B&H just has the trade-in amount without the $400 discount. And as you say, the trade-in camera selection at Panasonic is more limited.

Well, I pulled the trigger on that. I traded in my GH7 for a S1 II. For me this was a very good "Black Friday" deal.

Pulled the trigger on a new S1RII and did a trade in on my S5II. As it's excellent condition, the value is ~$700, far more than when I was getting a quote from B&H Photo Video used market. Between the $400 discount and the camera trade-in, I'm not certain I could have sold the S5II on ebay for $1100.
