I read and heard some negative comments about why Lumix decided to release the S1iie when we have already the S1Rii and the S1ii on the market. This information was made by the photographer from Perú, Mario Benites, and he made a 1 hour video in Spanish explainig every reason.

I asked Gemini AI to make the list of the 45 reasons and translate them into English language.

Here are 45 reasons for people who don't want to spent so much money and come from the S5II to get the S1iie.
  • Reason 45: Customizable Focus Point Color: The S1 II E allows you to change the color of the focus point, which is useful when shooting against backgrounds of various colors.
  • Reason 44: Arri Log C3 Format: The camera can record in Arri Log C3, a professional logarithmic color profile used in cinema. An additional fee of $180 is required to enable this feature.
  • Reason 43: 32-Bit Float Audio: The S1 II E can record audio in 32-bit float, which provides greater flexibility in post-production. A separate XLR2 adapter is required to use this function.
  • Reason 42: Flash Synchronization Port: The camera includes a port for syncing external flashes, a feature particularly useful for photographers who need precise control over flash timing.
  • Reason 41: Improved Anamorphic Stabilization: The camera offers better stabilization for anamorphic lenses, which are commonly used to create a widescreen, cinematic look.
  • Reason 40: Wireless Gimbal Control: The S1 II E is compatible with the DJI RS4 gimbal, allowing for wireless control of camera functions from the gimbal itself.
  • Reason 39: Internal ProRes RAW Recording: The camera can record in ProRes RAW format internally to a CFexpress card, providing a high-quality, uncompressed video file for professional editing.
  • Reason 38: Capture One Integration: The S1 II E's firmware update allows for tethered shooting with Capture One software via Wi-Fi or cable.
  • Reason 37: CFexpress Card Slot: The camera features a CFexpress card slot in addition to an SD card slot.
  • Reason 36: 10-Bit HEIF Photos: The camera can capture photos in the HEIF format at 10 bits, which is a middle ground between JPEG and RAW, offering more color information without the large file size of RAW.
  • Reason 35: Wireless Webcam Functionality: The camera can be used as a webcam wirelessly, which is a convenience not offered by the S5 II.
  • Reason 34: Bluetooth Time Synchronization: A firmware update enables the camera to synchronize its time code with other devices via Bluetooth.
  • Reason 33: AI-Powered Autofocus: The S1 II E features improved autofocus with artificial intelligence, making it more accurate and faster.
  • Reason 32: Urban Sports AF Mode: The camera includes a specialized "Urban Sports" autofocus mode designed to track subjects performing dynamic movements.
  • Reason 31: Focus Ring Function Control: The focus ring of a compatible lens can be assigned to control various camera functions, such as image stabilization or aperture, while in autofocus mode.
  • Reason 30: Customizable Focus Ring Direction: When using manual focus, you can change the rotation direction of the focus ring to suit your preference.
  • Reason 29: Individual Port Doors: The camera has a separate door for each of its four ports (microphone, headphones, HDMI, and USB-C).
  • Reason 28: Cinelike D2 Color Mode: The S1 II E includes a new Cinelike D2 color mode, providing more options for achieving a cinematic look in your videos.
  • Reason 27: All-Intra Recording: The camera supports All-Intra recording, where every frame is an independent capture. This provides higher quality and precision for video editing.
  • Reason 26: Full HD at 120p: It can record in Full HD at 120 frames per second, a feature not available on the S5 II.
  • Reason 25: Three Video Format Markers: The camera allows you to display up to three video format markers on the screen at the same time.
  • Reason 24: External RAW Recording: The camera can record RAW video to an external SSD drive in formats like Apple ProRes RAW and Blackmagic RAW.
  • Reason 23: Proxy Recording: When recording high-quality RAW files to an external monitor, the camera can simultaneously record a smaller, lower-resolution proxy file to an internal memory card.
  • Reason 22: Blackout-Free Viewfinder: The S1 II E's viewfinder does not black out during continuous burst shooting, making it easier to track a fast-moving subject.
  • Reason 21: Driver-Free Webcam: The camera can be used as a webcam without the need to install any software.
  • Reason 20: 30 fps Burst with Continuous AF: The camera can shoot 30 photos per second with continuous autofocus, a significant improvement over the S5 II's 30 fps burst with single autofocus.
  • Reason 19: High-Resolution OLED Viewfinder: The S1 II E features a higher resolution 5.76 million dot OLED viewfinder, providing a clearer and more detailed view than the S5 II.
  • Reason 18: Control Lock Switch: A dedicated switch on the camera allows you to lock specific buttons to prevent accidental changes to settings.
  • Reason 17: Cropless Electronic Stabilization: The camera offers improved electronic image stabilization without cropping the image, a feature that works with Panasonic lenses.
  • Reason 16: Recessed Dial: The top dial has been moved to a more recessed position to prevent accidental changes to settings while handling the camera.
  • Reason 15: False Color: The camera now has an integrated False Color exposure aid, a visual tool that helps you properly expose your shots.
  • Reason 14: Lumix Flow App Compatibility: The camera is compatible with the Lumix Flow app, which allows you to use your smartphone as a stable and fluid external monitor.
  • Reason 13: 8-Stop Stabilization: The S1 II E features up to 8 stops of in-body image stabilization, an improvement over the 5 stops offered by the S5 II.
  • Reason 12: Dedicated Video Mode Switch: The camera has a dedicated switch to toggle between photo and video modes, allowing for independent settings for each.
  • Reason 11: Competitive Price: The S1 II E was launched at a price of $2,500, which the presenter notes is a highly competitive price for its features.
  • Reason 10: External SSD Recording: The camera supports recording video to an external SSD, a feature shared with the S5 II X but not the standard S5 II.
  • Reason 9: Improved Human Autofocus: The autofocus is enhanced to better track human subjects, even when other objects pass in front of them.
  • Reason 8: 4K/60p Recording without Crop: The camera can record 4K video at 60 frames per second without the 1.5x crop found in the S5 II.
  • Reason 7: Front Record Button: There is a new, conveniently placed record button on the front of the camera, making it easier to start recording when positioned in front of the camera.
  • Reason 6: Shutter Curtain on Power Off: The camera's sensor can be protected by a curtain that closes when the lens is removed, helping to prevent dust and damage.
  • Reason 5: Tally Lights: The camera features tally lights on both the front and back to clearly indicate when it is recording.
  • Reason 4: In-Camera Focus Stacking: The camera can automatically perform focus stacking, combining a series of photos taken at different focus points into a single, sharp image.
  • Reason 3: Tiltable and Fully Articulating Screen: The S1 II E's screen can not only fully articulate but also tilt up and down.
  • Reason 2: Direct Copy to SSD: You can copy files directly from the camera's internal memory card to an external SSD without needing a computer.
  • Reason 1: No Overheating Issues: The S1 II E uses the same sensor as the S5 II, which does not suffer from overheating problems during long recording sessions.

That is a long list ;)

I think the main reason is very simple: Economies of scale.

The more parts you can use among the different products, the cheaper it gets to produce it, tganks to the increased quantity you can order. Sony and Fuji do the same.

It only gets problematic, if your do not sell later on enough cameras. Then you have still the obligation to take the quantity you agreed on specific parts from the producer and use it in a newer model, which was originally designed for i.e. a more modern sensor.

Yes, I guess some people don't want the semistacked sensor of the S1ii or the high mpx of the S1Rii and find the sensor of the S5II good enough. The reason number one in the list is the overheating problems of the new sensors.

The price now in Europe of the S5II is 1600€, while the price of the S1iie is 2300€. For 700€ more (S1iie) and the 45 reasons I think it could be more than enough for some creators.

45 reasons I don't have to upgrade at all

Ok… the evf and screen implementation are very nice. But does not warrant an upgrade for me. I don’t think my pictures or joy to use the camera will be any different at all.

The. S1r2 had 19mp reasons. The crop capability looks awesome to me. But for that I wait for a 60mp version. With sensor level pixel binning.
