Crop zoom

I'm a recent S9 buyer and just added the 50/1.8 to my 18-40mm. This is probably not news to experienced panasonic users, but I've discovered with the 50mm that if I have crop zoom turned on and assign the zoom function to the focus ring (whilst in AF mode), this effectively turns the prime into a zoom lens, the zooming achieved by turning the focus ring. Very clever indeed.

Indeed, that‘s a nice feature. My Viltrox 16mm f1.8 acts like a 16-33mm zoom

Mildly annoying that, contrary to Hybrid zoom, this crop zoom feature only seems to work with LUMIX lenses.

Crop zoom works with any lens, LUMIX or other. But the feature of using the focus ring to zoom only works with LUMIX lenses. With other lenses you zoom with the control wheel buttons, right to zoom out and left to zoom in.

That‘s not correct. To my surprise the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 supports the focus ring functions as well.

Good to know. Possissibly because Viltrox is an L mount member?
I think so. I wrote Sirui to add that support for their Aurora lenses as well. But I‘m not sure they will…

Just tried my new Sigma 70-200 2.8 - it does support the focus ring functions, too.
