I live near a municipal airport, which has it's advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages is when the owner of some super-cool - possibly vintage - airplane stops in and does some exhibition runs. This biplane was one of those days. These images were captured from my front porch, using the S1RII & Sigma 500/5.6.

This first image was actually scaled up to 200% using Capture One:

If that is the Boulder Municipal Airport, it is in danger of being closed. From complaints by Boulder residents. I'm a pilot who has signed a few petitions to keep it alive, and so far the residents haven't produced enough evidence of harm to proceed. You are a local and likely know a lot more about this than me.

And I really like your photos of the Pitts.

I live a bit east of Boulder, in a town called Erie, and the Erie Municipal Airport is around 1 mile or so from my house.

Boulder did indeed try to close the airport, and even sued the FAA - something about an old grant used to build or expand the airport - so that they could close it in 2040. A judge rejected it because, as you said, the city did not prove enough harm. So for now the city has given up on the idea.

As a pilot, it's always a double edge sword when there is discussion of airports/airfields closing. On the one hand, there are fewer and fewer small airfields where small aircraft can operate so it's good to see them remain (esp since they usually just get turned into housing development). On the other hand, if the airport is big enough to run a commercial operation (pax or freight) then they usually apply for and are granted a huge chunk of controlled airspace. That often seriously compromises light aviation, especially gliding, in a country as small as the UK.

But in the US, the situation with GA airfields is really superb - so many about and most very well equipped.

This old dude was having a ball. Had an attentive audience every time I walked past, stopped for a while and chatted myself Yesterday was the first time that the bike had been started in 70 years he said. Little bit of a disaster, you can see the ding in the tank where it fell over against the clothesline

I'm absolutely loving my Lumix 35 mm. I had no idea I'd find it so so much more useful and versatile than the 40's and 40 mm equivalents I've owned and used over the years. Hardly been off the camera since I've gotten it

I love the old VW Type 2 or "Kombi" as we always called them. Loved the way they look, and they remind me of coastal road trips back in the 1970s. I always wanted one but never got around to it. And they are so expensive now. The ID Buzz with two-tone paint is a reasonable modern-day version.

What went so wrong for them after this? I'm not really into cars myself, but if you do a little bit of a search on the YouTube for "Number 27", you'll find a channel that reviews a lot of the older cars, and gives a little bit of the history behind them. He covers the P1800, quite an interesting story. He's just a really enjoyable character to watch, passionate, you can really tell that he loves what he's doing/creating. Well worth a watch, even if you're not really into cars.
