I really liked his reviews, although too much into detail for me, but it was a good counterpart to all superficial wannabe testers.

I anticipated this already since he mentioned in the past year already that all cameras are good enough now.

You see other youtubers and review sites going the same direction. Either they more or less stop it or make it superficial or only like a marketing broschure. Dpreviews, PetaPixel, and many, many youtubers. They might reviews the next 100 chinese lenses, but at the end of the day, there are not enough oroducts and innovations anymore to keep such sites/channels profitable.

I also liked his videos, but I was very disappointed by his tendency to exaggerate the flaws or shortcomings of Lumix cameras (S1R ii, Rolling Shutter) and to minimize or directly omit the flaws or shortcomings of Sony cameras (A7IV, Rolling Shutter)... I prefer Richard Wong, he is much more objective.

Not to mention the drama he created when Lumix didn't provide him with the S9 or invite him to the camera's launch, accusing other YouTubers of lacking objectivity... Then it all makes sense when he confesses in one of his videos that he owns three Sony A7 IV cameras... And that also explains why in his latest review of the Sony A7 V he says that open gate is the most overrated feature in the content creator scene, because according to him, the ability to change the aspect ratio in post-production or record in anamorphic mode isn't that important. And it's clear he hasn't edited any real-life footage, because 6K open gate is crucial if you want to stabilize clips in post-production, since it's done by cropping the recording... But that's just how it is in this world of influencers, YouTubers, and content creators...

His reviews were always too video focused to interest me.

I just erased a long winded suggestion about what I preferred over the years to Gerard Undone.
https://blog.mingthein.com/ was my favorite reviewer. Perhaps I prefer the written blog format for photography reviews and image examples….

He moved from photo stacking studio shoots of watches to making his own line of watches during Covid. Last post was August 2020…alas. He continues to be my inspiration for blogging.

I vastly prefer written reviews to vids. I find it very hard to sit through a presenter going at whatever pace they set, which is usually much slower than I can read, even when I like their voice and speaking style. And very few have a style I enjoy listening to.

Totally agree. And it's not helped by way too many YT content providers being way too proud of their own voice.

I also prefer written reviews to video ones. I think I watched one or two of Gerald's reviews but found him quite annoying, though to be fair that's the case with most people who make video reviews of photographic equipment.

Undone did quite a bit of calibrated testing, where he stood out as a mirrorless video reviewer. I always found this useful. As he says, nowadays all the major mirrorless cameras perform well with video, so what he does (did) has less value.
