Hello all. Just recently joined this forum. Switched over to Lumix last year from Canon RF mount as I grew frustrated with their closed mount policies. Earlier in my photography journey I shot with a Lumix G7 and really liked it but moved to full frame. I've shot with Canon, Sony and Nikon but feel most at home with Lumix. They, in my opinion, give the best bang for the buck and I love the rendering and color science of my S5 II and S1 IIe. I have amassed a nice kit since switching over. I have the 35, 50, and 85 primes. The 20-60 kit lens. I also have the 24-105 and a Sigma trinity of sorts. That's made up of the 16-28, the 28-70 and the 70-200. For lighting I used Godox on and off camera flashes. I am beginning to shoot semi-professionally as of late but still have a lot to learn. Looking forward to sharing photos and discussion with you all.

Hi @Rel75 and Welcome to LMF33

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on how you feel about the differences between the S5II and the S1IIe.

Welcome to LMF33Thirsting Pics1

Welcome! I didn't try RF, but gave alpha and Z their chance to persuade me. I'm definitely most comfortable in the Lumix system, its specs tick more of my list of preferred options. My old Pentax primes still take their turns.

Welkom, nice to have you here. Strave Wo Pics1

Welcome on board!
I'm curious of NY looks of images shot with Lumix S.
You could make a separate thread dedicated for it ... or, give us a link, where we can find them.
Cheers!

The S1 IIe definitely feels better in the hand than the S5II but the S5II feels great inits own right. The S1 IIe feels more premium and the flip out screen on the IIe is amazing. You don't know you need it until you try it. than you're wondering how could you have gone without this for all of your life.
AF is better and noticeably so. It's an upgrade with moving subjects. I still think they can tweak it more with firmware updates. One thing I love if if I decide to shoot TTL with on camera flash at an event, the ISO will auto adjust. This was not the case with the S5 II. You had to set ISO no matter what which made events a little tricky. It's fine for in studio where you have more control of the environment however. Picture quality is superb on both cameras.

You know, Canon has something special on their hands that they are destroying from the inside out with their refusal to allow third part lenses and inflated prices. The AF and tracking are incredible but you feel very confined when using the RF mount. There's nowhere to go but Canon and they make you pay for it with eye watering prices and while the glass is good, it's not that good. Lumix is suiting me just fine, haven't looked back since leaving. But the new R6 III looks solid.

I'll put up some photos that I took at New York Comic Con recently on a separate thread,

I have not done much street photography with the Lumix but I should. In NYC there is inspiration around every corner.

Thanks for your response. Much appreciated.

I love my S5II and really do not need to upgrade but I have always preferred tilt-out rear screens on cameras compared to side-hinged screens, so the S1IIe would be very nice to have. I don't need the extra resolution of the S1RII nor the speed of the S1II. The 'e' would probably be perfect for me.

Glad to see you!

I loved shooting Manhattan when I was there for Macworld Expo back in the day, though it was mostly the usual tourist landmarks (I'm a sucker for architecture and NYC delivers in spades). I'm envious. ;) Never made it to Flushing Meadows Park, though, which feels like a huge missed opportunity now. ;_;

I think the s5II and S1 IIe compliment each other well. So if you need a second body and don't need the speed or extra resolution, you can't go wrong with it. I love my S5II as well. It's gotten me some great shots.

Flushing Meadows isn't too far from me as I live in Queens. I really should get out there with the camera. I hope they finish the restoration some of the remnants of the World's Fair. they were fixing the observation towers and the Tent of Tomorrow but I haven't heard any further updates. The architecture here is fantastic. I've captured some but not with Lumix Cameras. I have photos of NYC and other spots here:

The observation towers, the Tent of Tomorrow, the Unisphere, and the Rocket Garden at the Hall of Science are the big remaining structures I want to see... also, I just want to get a feel for what the original fairgrounds were like.
A few of my pics are here; that was early days, so not exactly my best work. :(

Those are some magnificent shots of the WTC! I wish I was into. Photography while they were still with us. Such amazing buildings. Now that you’re mentioning all these places you’re giving me the motivation to hop on the subway and get some shots.

Yeah... I just wish I'd had better control over keeping the verticals, and that I'd had a better camera... the color banding on some of the rooftop shots is pretty bad. ;_;

Then my job here is done! ;)
