Lumix is the spiritual successor to Pentax and has already beaten Sony..

I'm a long time Pentax shooter and I recently bought a Sony A74 because of all the marketing hype behind it but when I compared it to my Pentax K1 ii I felt like the Sony wasn't nearly as good in many ways except video, so I then returned the Sony camera to get a Lumix S5 ii and was shocked that the Lumix not only blew out the Sony, but it also surpassed my Pentax on the Photography side, and coming from someone that has been shooting with Pentax camera's since 2002, that is extremely high praise. I made a video showing the similarities between both cameras and even show the difference in image quality, check it out and let me know what you think:

Very interesting video. @Oíche used to participate in this forum. He was a Pentax user and was impressed by everything he could do with his Lumix S5ii.

As for lenses, over 100 native lenses have been manufactured, including Leica, Sigma, and Lumix. Other smaller manufacturers like Laowa, Samyang, TTArtisan, and /Artisans also make L-mount lenses. And there are more, including anamorphic lenses. It seems that adding them all up, they almost reach 200, including APS-C lenses. Here are some lists:

As for zooming with a prime lens, Lumix cameras have an option called "Crop zoom," which allows you to zoom up to almost double the focal length (i.e., from 50mm to 100mm), and it's a very interesting option, especially for video.

The ergonomics of Lumix full-frame cameras are really good, I don't know if they're as good as a Pentax DSLR, but if you find the Lumix S5ii comfortable and easy to handle, the S1Rii or S1ii will impress you even more.

Greetings and welcome

(I like your cars, especially the red Mustang... ;))

Thanks a lot I really appreciate your advice and that list of lenses,I just ordered one and plan on getting a lot more, thanks for the warm welcome into the L Mount universe.

I must say that I really like the Panasonic S cameras. I was a long time Olympus user and dabbled from time to time with FF mirrorless; trying both Sony and Nikon. When I dipped my feet into Panasonic FF, I bought a bargain used S5 from eBay and the cheapest 20-60 that was up for sale at MPB (£135). Despite the whole lot costing well under £1000, I absolutely loved it and it delivered the goods so far as IQ was concerned. I've since had an S5ii, S1, S1R, and now an S1Rii. The S5ii, S1, and S1R have departed for owners new, but I've kept the S5 as backup to the S1Rii. But really the S1Rii is the best and most complete camera I've ever had.

Man that is awesome, I'm going to shoot with the S5ii for a while then my next upgrade will be the S1Rii.

Since, I don't care about video, I've decided to stick with S5II, and my next upgrade will be S5? with 5.6K EVF, if it comes with 24MP sensor.
You might want to look at the new S1iiE. It has the same 24MP sensor but a much improved EVF and LCD.

This is what I am considering. I don't need the higher-res sensor in the S1Rii and I don't need the stacked sensor in the S1ii. So the S1iiE would be a nice upgrade. The only thing I am not keen on is the CFE card slot. I'd prefer two SD card slots.

I think for my next Lumix it will need to have more megapixels.

Thank you for pointing this out.
It's really worth of consideration.
Perhaps, it is the best one of all worlds.
Just need to make sure, that it has no less DR, than S5.
I don't need the stacked sensor, either.
I like the rounded shape of EVF, as opposed to rectangular one, that smears my specs really bad.
And, 5,6MP EVF is better for my weak eyes.
I don't mind CFE card. Even, I prefer it over SD one.
I hate those articulated LCDs as opposed to much more desired tilt one for events, and street action shooting.
So, the articulated LCD is frustrating, and seldom being used by me, ... only, to change settings in camera.
I don't do video, at all.

I’m very impressed with the performance of the 44Mp sensor in the S1Rii. It’s very close in noise and DR performance to the S5 but of course offers more Mp which can be useful for cropping or printing big. When I had the S1 and S1R I often chose the S1 or the S5 when the light was low or I wanted to do long exposures. I no longer feel I need to do that.

When I had the g1 and k-7 I nearly flipped to Lumix.. but the K-5 changed my mind. Having used almost everything from k200d to K-1, plus Sony Nikon Fuji Oly mirrorless, I'm here again with a humble S1. Had I tried it first instead of the S5, I would have done less brand wandering. It's a better fit for me, and s1 plus 20-60 is lighter than s5 plus any other standard S zoom.

I agree that going from Pentax to Lumix was the least troublesome switch I've done. Nikon wasn't too bad, though that reverse mount was strange.

I've seen Oíche almost everywhere on the web, and agreed with nearly all of his gear opinions.

I miss @Oíche too. Maybe he is taking a forum break for a while… or did I miss a post he is moving on?

Pay attention with CF cards. CF cards drain the battery more than SD cards. You also need a special card reader and not every CF card reader supports the speed of your CF card.

For sports photography CF cards are better because of the faster writing speed, especially if your camera has a small buffer (the buffer of the S1Rii is not very big).

But outside of sports photography, I always would prefer SD cards. They are cheaper and I have already many SD cards.

You have nowadays SD card reader in many laptops and an external SD card reader is smaller than a CF card reader, which is better for travelling. I am glad that the S1Rii has both card slots.

But really the S1Rii is the best and most complete camera I've ever had.

I second that. I do not do video at all with it. But for photography, I like the Lumix S1Rii more than any other fullframe camera I owned before, like Sony A900, Nikon D800, Nikon Z6, Lumix S5, S5ii, S9 etc. Except the Leica Q3 43, but that has a fixes lens and is therefore for different use cases.

But I have to say I am still emotionally attached to MFT. Olympus EM1.3, Lumix G9 original, GX9 etc. are still all great cameras. It is only that my Leica Q3 43 replaced MFT for 99% of my "MFT use cases"

I would love to have a modern fullframe Pentax 24MP DSLR which is small, so that I could use my Pentax DA limited lenses with AF on it. One can dream....

Thank you. I've got a good Lexar card reader for both of them.
I'd use a CF card for a fast moving action in so called 'decisive moment'.

My gx7 is sufficient for features, so I'm reasonably set. Laowa 10 and 14-140, plus a couple of native primes.. and of course Pentax adaptations Daumenhoch Smilie

It's still killing me that I have not seen my M85/2 in a year, I really like that lens!!

Really loved m43 and miss the LUMIX 100-300ii. I did research the other day for a used G9 and PanaLeica 80-400….

But.. 300mm is 300mm. Only the sensor is smaller. I guess If I crop a full frame 300mm picture to m43 size and use a sophisticated upscaler the results won’t be that different anyway. Better wait for a high resolution fullframe body.

Me too to some degree. But I'm resisting buying back in!
Not me!

I don't think I would ever go back to MFT. It doesn't deal well with low light or high contrast scenes, tonal gradation is poor, cropping is limited, the list goes on. Then there is the Koolaid effect! Over on the DPR MFT forum they will tell you that an OM1 has better IQ than a Nikon Z9.
