At 3pm London time, the Lumix live event starts on YouTube.

They will introduce the new Lumix S1II and S1IIe, which we discussed already in the rumor thread.

This new thread is for watching the live event together and discus all the news, reviews of youtubers etc.

Let's have fun together! Tomorrow, Tuesday at 3pm London time. 26 hours left....

Ha ha! We get the news right after we wake up on US west coast, far earlier than you..

I have to admit that I am excited for the reviews. I hope that the AF improved again.

If you imagine, that we will have this afternoon 4 really new Lumix fullframe models with PDAF (S9, S1RII, S1II, S1IIe) plus at least 3 "older" models which will not disappear/be replaced (S5II, S5IIx, S5). This in total are 7 Lumix models at the same time!!! This is amazing!

I'm staff at a youth event, so I’ll check it out later. Probably start with a short one and then dive into @Richard Wong his review (assuming it’s super long again ): I’ll finish the rest tomorrow.

I am flying to Paris today, but I will catch up starting with the Richard Wong's review of the 24-60mm f/2.8. I am really interested in that lens.
That poor guy.... Probably hasn't slept for weeks to make 3 long reviews :eek:

I’m wondering how the S1ii e will be differentiated from the S5ii. They seem very similar cameras. At least in the S1 S5 era, the differences were quite marked in terms of size, weight, EVF, build, handling etc. But now they are quite similar in all these aspects.

My guess is that Panasonic will do it the same way as Sony does.

Keep older models as long as possible in the product line to offer something at lower prices and the models with the newest technology will be priced significatly higher. Since all cameras are "good enough" already, this is cheaper than to produce a low cost model just for the lower price segment.

Thanks to this, Panasonic, although L-Mount has a relatively small market share, can now offer 7 different models at the sane time in 7 different price categories and production costs are lower than with 7 totally different models.

Strategically, this is a huge step and can give L-Mount a huge push. Do not underestimate this wealth of body choices for the consumer sentiments and positive influence on their buying decision.

I see where you’re coming from, but there are a few key differences—especially in the body design. In fact, it feels closer to the S5iiX because of the SSD support. I’m also expecting a faster processor—perhaps the same as the S1Rii but with lower resolution, so it can devote more time to each pixel. And that correlates autofocus in video should be another noticeable upgrade.

I think it is a great (and surprising) move.
You update the form factor to the better one.
You add an "uncropped" "cinematic" readout mode (I hope we get that in S5ii too)
You update the processor to enable future improvements.
It becomes the better entry point, specially if the bundle with the new F2.8 has an attractive price.

The S1IIe has overall better hardware, excluding the sensor. Better EVF, better/faster mechanical shutter, CF-B+SD slots instead of dual SD and probably a faster processor. But I also don't know if the S1IIE is necessary and if so, why don't call it S5III?

Marketing. A different name is a better market segmentation and better for asking different prices.

Additionally S5III sounds like S5 and S5II are outdated and not worth it anymore to buy.

Bear in mind, if you want to offer all 7 different bodies as a well thought out product line differentiation, you have to use names, which do not sound like you are buying a "dead" product noone wants to have anymore.

I think it makes the lineup unnecessary complicated. Sony for example is now in in the fourth generation with the A7 and getting in to the fifth. Nobody will think about the A7V as a dead product because it has some predecessors.

Also the S5 line up is Panasonic's most successful full frame line up. There will be a successor for the S5II sooner or later. But it makes it difficult to see where Panasonic gonna put it. Will it share the S1II sensor and therefore outperform the S1IIE? Or will it get the same sensor again? But how improve it over the S5II but let it be below the S1IIE?

If it would be a cheaper S1II without mechanical shutter but the same sensor, everybody would know what the E stands for, why it's cheaper and why to pay about double the price of an S5II.

Can anyone just briefly, summarize the difference between S1Rii, S1ii and S1iiE ? (I guess that the latter two is released at the event and specs are not disclosed yet, but). Well this is many «Formel1» speed professionals cameras, very exciting indeed ! The candy store for adults…

I guess not, because it is not officially released yet 2 hours en 5 minutes
