Lumix S1Rii 4k recording on CF card - experiences

I am thinking about recording a field hockey game with my Lumix S1Rii.

A game lasts around 70 minutes at least, including the breaks).

I wonder whether the S1Rii will overheat with such a long recording time. Also rolling shutter could be an issue.

I have 2x CF express cards, each 64GB. I want to record in 4k 30p or 24p to save space.

Does anybody has experience with such long recordings? Or do I have to use a S5ii because it is too much for the S1Rii?
 
Hi Dirk, I don't have the S1Rii, but I would not expect overheating in this situation.

4K 24/25/30p is not very taxing for any modern camera, and I presume you record in .Mov 422 format (Not ProRes/ProRes Raw, nut you haven't got any space on your cards for that anyway). I understand that after the updates even the S9 can handle it)

I would advise to use 25P. You live in Europe and here we are used to 25p; 30p is for the US and some other outside-europe countries..
24p is only when you make a movie.

(Why 25p in Europe? Our Electricity is 230v/50hz, and 50hz is exactly 2 times 25p/ Does that stil matter, it might when you have lights, digital banners etc in the view. They might flicker with 24p or 30p).

Last note: with a decent SD-card you should also be able to do this. Make sure it is at least V60
 
I was able to record over 1 hour of 6k ProRes HQ on the S1RII before getting overheating.
I was using a USB battery adapter and the screen was flipped off the camera for more airflow.
The cards that you are using make a difference, I would make some tests.

4K 30p on a 1TB would get you about 5.5 hours of recording time.

Been it a fast sport, and you want to see the action, I would probably shoot at a faster shutter angle or shutter speed in order to get sharp images and less motion blur.
 
You can record directly from the camera to an external SSD in order to avoid overheating caused by some CFExpress tybe B cards. External SSD up to 2 TB compatible with USB Type-C.

But, in that case you can not use at the same time usb-c battery adapter, if I am not wrong. The problem would be the life battery.

Maybe a dummy battery would work...

I use a dummy battery with powerbank often
