*** March 2026 Image & Video Thread ***

Very nice. I've tried some studio/beauty stuff in the past, but it didn't really do much for me. Probably as much a case of my ignorance and inexperience as anything else, but I sort of came to the conclusion it was more about the model than the photographer.
It was a strange experience. It feels rude to me to demand a model pose for you - especially if you're asking them to do something like 'smile suggestively at the camera' - but from what a couple of the sponsors were saying, it's rude not to interact with the model and encourage them. Not that anything I said was going to carry any weight, they all had crowds of people around them most of the show. ^^;;

Where I think the photographer makes a difference - aside from the usual composition factor - is in finding the right moment to snap the shutter as the model went through their poses. Strikes me as being like sports photography that way.

And post-processing skill... although I guess a lot is done with AI now a days,.

Sunday evening was incredibly crowded — so much so that I ended up standing right on the roadside. Locals were looking at me like I wasn’t a photographer at all, but some kind of engineer doing road measurements or surveying work. The best viewpoints were unfortunately on private property, where I couldn’t access, so I had to work with what was available from where I stood.

Yesterday I went out shooting. Due to limited time, I decided not to travel far and went to a nearby forest instead. I set myself a task: to find a seemingly unremarkable location and try to see something interesting in it. To capture a frame among the repeating trees — in that mass where everything seems the same — and still find something unique. I’m not sure how well I managed to accomplish this, but the process itself mattered. It was an attempt to see more in a simple place and make the most of what is right here and now.

I like the first best, although the third is also good.

A few final tests of the Minolta 58/1.2 before deciding whether to try and clean it...

And the Soligor 35-140 for comparison:

The almost liquid look on bottles like this was what grabbed my attention with the Kiron 70-150 that had similar staining on the elements:

And that look was what I was taking a gamble on when I bought the Minolta with such obvious element issues. So I wanted to see if the Minolta had it before trying to clean it. And well... it does have it, but not enough for me to put up with the problems the element staining causes in other photos. When I get a chance, it'll be cleaned.

It is that time of year :) I decided to give my less used lenses a spin
