Rumors New lenses from Sigma coming soon

Sigma is rumored to release up to six lenses ins the next few months. The first supposed to be two APS-C lenses, a 17-40 f1.8 and a 12 f1.4, and maybe a full frame lens at an event on June 17th. A few months later they supposed to be some other lenses.

The rumored full frame lenses include the 200mm f2 and 35mm f1.2 ii, we already heard about earlier. The other two would be a fast Tele Prime with "specs never seen before" and a travel zoom with "specs never seen before".

The travel zoom is probably the lens most of the L-Mount users are interested in what it could be.

Oh.. I thought the travel zoom was the 16-300 lens already announced, is there to be another one?

Answered my own question - sorry. Just seen last sentence about announcement later in the year. :) Sigma are very busy lately!

The 17-40mm f1.8 aps-c is the equivalent of the new Lumix 24-60mm f/2.8, but I guess in a smaller size and lighter.

Interesting... for photo and for video shooters that use aps-c (or super-35) mode.

On the S1Rii the Sigma 17-40/1.8 in APS-C mode would be around 15MP.

15 MP might be big enough, if size and weight savings are significant compared to the Lumix 24-60/2.8

...
I hope/dream that Sigma surprises us with the size. If it will be an Art lens, it will be big and heavy, though.

It's about the same weight, less in diameter but about a cm longer than the Panasonic.

New aps-c lenses in L-Mount… could that mean a new aps-c l-mount camera from Sigma?

That would be nice! Even nicer if it’s a foveon sensor! I know they talk like forever about a FF foveon. But maybe they would like it with a small ape-c version first

Anyway for what reason would Sigma make aps-c lenses with L-Mount? The Leica aps-c bodies are discontinued for ages by now. I don’t think anyone buying a 2nd hand TL or CL for new upcoming lenses.

Or am I just hoping for something that will not come and those lenses are just a byproduct of Fuji and E-mount lenses and can be ordered in L-mount for the die hard Leica aps-c user.

I known people can mount aps-c lenses on full frame. But who would buy something new too small for your sensor anyway…. Using old lenses that way because of switching from aps-c to same mount FF then yes…

I think this is the reason. Because Sigma is one of the three founding partners of the L-Mount alliance, they have to offer every new lens also in L-Mount, whether it fits there or not does not matter.

It would give the wrong signal, if Sigma would offer a new designed lens in Sony E Mount, but not L-Mount.

Normally Sigma would not be allowed to offer any new Sigma lens in non- LMount. Imagine if Nikon would offer Z lenses in Sony E Mount.

But I guess this was part of thr L-Mount alliance deal and the reason why Sigma is able to launch so many new lenses for LMount. Economies of scale. They make a lot of money with it, although the maket share of L-Mount is not very high. It is a win-win situation for us.

I still hope there might come a small sigma aps-c camera. . With an evt ofourse and if I dare a Foveon sensor.

Ofcourse with a quoted spec of 72mp, (24mp times 3 layers).
