It's an interesting conundrum: What is more important - EVF or IBIS?

Why, oh why, don't they let us eat our cake?

I had the original FP when it first came out and took some very nice pictures without either EVF or IBIS. But of these the EVF would be the most important, and something I would add to a FP2. In my case I would need stabilization just for telephoto, but the FP2 works with OIS lenses so I expect this would do fine. With a telephoto lens IBIS is doing next to nothing and OIS is doing all the work. If you had a really good copy of the Lumix 28-200 OIS it could be a good fit with the FP2.

I finally sold the FP, not because of photography issues but because I did not like working with CinemaDNG for video. It can give good results but for me it was a pain to work with. ProRes RAW brings the FP2 into the modern era for video.

Yeah me too, but it’s not the easiest of cameras to handle and use (I’ve tried). Messy UI and a less than stellar EVF. But at least it HAS an EVF and I’d probably get used to the menus.

Lots of good lenses to choose from too. And maybe the Sony lenses don’t break like the Lumix ones do. And they may even fix them rather than sentencing them to landfill for simple things that go wrong.

I watched some of the PetaPixel YT review of the camera and once I saw the EVF in use on the camera I realised it's far less convenient than I had first assumed. It's too far out to the side and away from the camera's centre of balance whch looks like it makes it uncomfortable and unstable. If the EVF is a separate add-on I really think it needs to go on top.

So coupled with the usual Sigma weirdness it looks like they've made some progress but not nearly enough for the camera to risk getting anywhere near being mainstream. I really wonder if Sigma can't see all their weirdness or they can but insist on including it anyway.

I still don’t understand why an EVF isn’t just integrated. For a camera that has any pretentious for stills, it’s just a fail from start.

I agree. I can only imagine it's to keep it small for the few people that feel they don't need one but an add-on is always going to be more expensive and more voluminous than having one integrated. For the price of the FP2 you could get a camera that has both a viewfinder and a mechanical shutter, though of course it will be bigger, but much more capable.

The current FP L has an EVF off to the side like this. Plus that EVF is larger and more clunky than the new FP2 EVF. I have not heard FP L users comment or complain about the EVF.

It isn't clear how you would get the benefit of the FP2's upward tilting EVF with an integrated design. Anyway the Sigma idea is to keep the camera as small as possible when the EVF is not needed. This seems kind of like suggesting the iPhone needs a built in EVF.

For sure, a reason I finally sold my S9 was because I found times on bright days I really needed an EVF. And if an S9II arrives with an EVF I could well jump back in. A detachable FP2 style EVF for the S9II would be okay with me, and yes, my L10 has a built in EVF which would also be okay for an S9II.

If an S9 II appears with an EVF then that would make the lack of mechanical shutter it's biggest problem but if they use a faster sensor, as in the FP2, then that would help mitigate that and it would be a much more appealing camera. I haven't seen anywhere how much faster the new sensor is compared to the old FP one so I don't know how much better it would be.

Well, the Panasonic GX8 managed it pretty well. And it was a superb EVF too - high res for its time and very large, clear and bright.

The iPhone is hopeless as a serious camera for lots of reasons, one of which is it has no EVF!
