Great news! Certainly fills a gap in terms of L mount lens offerings for (long) telephoto zoom lenses. We have Sigma's 150-600 and 60-600s of course but I personally would be more tempted by a 100-500 zoom. More versatile.

It still seems a little bit on the heavy side - I assume we'll get dual IS?

Interesting choice to slot it between the Sigma 100-400 & 150-600. I have mixed feelings. I really want all my zoom rings to twist the same way, and the two aforementioned Sigmas are my last hold out (I really only use the 150-600 anymore). But that last 100mm on the 150-600 is quite important for wildlife. F7.1 is also a touch slow on the long end - which means you will be deeper into diffraction territory with the high-res bodies when using the 1.4x TC - but as long as the lens has good details and contrast wide-open at 500mm, it’s probably not an issue. Hopefully the AF speed is on par with, or faster than, the Sigma 500 or 60-600. Which would make it faster than the 150-600. We shall see.

Nice. I have no interest in these super-long lenses, but it's good for the system to have options for wildlife/sports shooters.

If AF and IQ are good AND it's light, this might be the lens that would make me retire the M43 combo. The S1Rii is basically the same body as the G9ii but the Sigma 150-600 is twice as heavy as the PL100-400. If 1.3 kg (vs 2kg Sigma) is true, I will be very very tempted.
