Rumors Panasonic 24-60 f2.8 or f2.0

I have seen the review of Richard Wong and in terms of sharpness, general image quality, chromatic aberration and purple fringing the images that he shows are on par with the 24-70 f2.8 Lumix S PRO, or maybe are 2% not as good.

The new 24-60mm has the same filter thread (77mm) as the Lumix 14-28mm, which is a very versatile combo for hybrid content creation.

But besides size and weight, the advantages of this new lens are control ring assignment and an assignable focus button on the lens barrel.

Regarding video the optimized internal barrel structure should suppress focus breathing and it has micro-step aperture control to smooth F-stop transitions.

I think this is a winner Lens for HYBRID content creators. I have no problem to lose 10mm in the long end if I am going to use apsc mode anyway for video. I have problems in my back and shoulders because of the weight of lenses like the Leica 24-70 f/2.8. I don't know if this new 24-60mm f2.8 is 2% worse or better than the Lumix, Leica or Sigma 24-70 f2.8. For me the IQ and portability are good enoug. I am going to sell my Leica and buy this one.

And don't get me started to write about Dpreview, Petapixel or photography blog...

The reviewers can say what they want, I have not seen any proof that this lens is even close to the 24-70 S Pro. Time will tell as more images surface or if I get a chance to shoot it myself.

The lens does extend while zooming. It's just the focusing that's all internal.
I quite like the idea of the focus ring behind able to be set for other duties. And interestingly, from what I understand, the S 20-60mm will receive an update to enable the same feature. Go Panasonic. Although, is not quite as usable being a variable aperture zoom of like me, you have intentions of using it as an Aperture ring. My only concern (for lack of a better word) is that it might be a bit too easily bumped. Interested to see what real life users make of it

The shots from DPreview were also unremarkable.
They only have Richard and a young inexperienced sidekick doing reviews and tests these days so personally, I wouldn't base any view or decision on what they publish.

DPReview is not a source to be trusted anymore... They lost the knowledge with that Amazon/selling debacle.
Yes agreed. All of their good technical people have gone. There is no-one there to test video so their camera reviews cover 50% of what the cameras can do.

I could easily get started on DPR and PetaPixel. I think I already have! Z04 Flucht

12 posts in over 2 years, what brought you out of the woodwork?

So, how does the S-Pro compare to the Leica?
Very close. Sharpness and micro contrast is on par with the Leica. The extra reach is nice, but the Leica is not a fixed aperture (it tops out at f/4 @ 90mm). The perfect landscape lens, though heavy and expensive. Images are gorgeous.

I bought the S Pro on a whim, as it was so highly rated and I got it for $1500, new, on a discount offer. Glad I grabbed it, as I missed the fixed aperture zoom and it's lighter with the same optical quality as the Leica, minus the extra 20mm reach. The images really look 3D with both lenses. They just pop beautifully. Gorgeous bokeh as well, especially for a zoom lens

The S Pro is a really fantastic lens and if I bought it first, I probably wouldn't have bought the Leica. That's how good it is.

Dustin does seem to think that the 24-60 is missing that 3D pop that the 24-70 has. FF to about the 6 min mark.

I would agree, based on what I've seen. I was ready to pre-order this morning, but held up when I saw the samples. I'll wait for more samples and reviews to become available or to get to shoot it myself.

Started by you. What is it your business how often I have posted over two years? Mind your business and they'll be no issue. I was contributing to this thread like everyone else and you're the only one who seems to have an issue with it.
Stop derailing the thread Hypocrite

I want to hire one for a few days out of curiosity. Unfortunately I think it's very unlikely they'll be available for that in my country. Or at least without great hassle with shipping back & forwards etc
