Rumors Panasonic 24-60 f2.8 or f2.0

A 24-60 f2 would be enormous, and even an f2.8 would be big too, and really pointless given the existing 24-70 f2.8 lenses already in the system. Is a big and heavy 24-60 f2 really necessary? Who would buy it?

What would a 24-60 f2.8 offer you over one of the excellent 24-70 f2.8 lenses already in the system ? (i.e. the LUMIX and Sigma lenses).

Maybe it would be another one of those zooms that is designed to replace a "bag of primes", a bit like the Sigma 28-45 f1.8?

I've looked at that Sigma and it's way too big and heavy for me!

Oh, I dunno... Seems that Panasonic has gotten pretty good at making lightweight lenses from optical plastics in lieu of glass. I've no reason to doubt a 24-60 f/2 wouldn't continue that trend.

The only thing that concerns me about this, is the life span of these plastic elements. Clarity and dimensional stability over the long term. I'm getting to the age where I don't want to be re-buying $1000+ lenses 5 or 10 years down the track.
The casings/housings etc have proceed themselves long term, but as far as optical clarity, I'm not aware of anything that's stood the test of time yet. I know some of the compact point and shoots have used plastic elements, but they're kind of a bit disposable.
 
I don't think Panasonic are adventurous enough to produce an f/2.0 zoom but if it were a 24-60mm then it would suit a lot of people who complained that Canon and Sony's f/2 zooms only go to 28mm so aren't quite as we're used to with standard fast zooms.

I think it's more likely a 24/28-60mm f/2.8 that's non-Pro and cost about the same as the Sigma 24-70/2.8, thereby rendering it completely pointless.
 


Obviously, it will be a 24-60/2.8 as a smaller and cheaper alternative to the 24-70/2.8.

The cameras will be a S1II wit 70fps??? And a S1IIe, but he currently doesn't know the difference. But the S1II will probably be cheaper.

Sounds still a little bit confused. But I think the part with the lens seems realistic.
 
So, it’s very high frame rate with no blackout - that’s a good start! But I think they need to step up on the AF front. A photo friend of mine has just sent all his LUMIX FF stuff (S5ii, S1) off to Wex for trade in because he can’t get the AF to work on even mild action shots (e.g. dogs running towards the camera). He also runs an OM1 and reckons it nails the same scenes with 80%+ hit rates.
