Panasonic is bundling the DMW-SFU3A ARRI LogC3 software upgrade key, valued at $249.99, free of charge with every new LUMIX S1II purchase in the United States. The limited-time promotion runs through March 28, 2026, and applies to all S1II body and kit configurations purchased from Panasonic.com or participating authorized dealers

Nice. I haven't had any reason to use ARRI LogC3 with my S1ii yet so I've never purchased the license. But if it came for free with the camera I would for sure explore it.

I started thinking about it since I knew that this beautiful movie called 'Train Dreams":

was filmed with all natural light in 3:2 aspect ratio on Alexa 35:

Now I discovered that the Arri 35 uses the Arri Log 4... :(

I've not seen the movie yet, but I will. 3:2 seems like a strange aspect ratio for a movie, but it makes sense here. My grandparents were Western U.S. pioneers, over the Rocky Mountains in a covered wagon and all, so this genre is always appealing to me.

As I understand Arri LogC4 came about to cover the fantastic 17 stop dynamic range of the Arri 35 camera. Arri LogC3 should be fine for the rest of us who don't have cameras with anywhere near this much dynamic range.

I use DaVinci Resolve and always use ACES for the color transform. I think I could transform V-Log to Arri LogC3 okay, and then I could use the Arri LUTS. I have never tried this, but I would look at it before spending $250 for the Panasonic Software Key.

I watched Train Dreams last night. It is emotional, and a film that sticks with me - some of the scenes keep popping back up in my mind. I'll see it again in a few weeks, to watch the wonderful cinematography. Thanks @xaviergut for posting about it.

You are welcome, Charles!
I just started with the book, a 116 pages "novella" written by Denis Johnson.
