A new 25th Anniversary video from LUMIX. I really enjoyed it.

YouTube caption:
What does LUMIX mean to you?
For 25 years, LUMIX has been part of countless creative journeys.
In this first chapter, our community looks back on the cameras, moments, and experiences that shaped their journey with LUMIX.️

I saw it yesterday, and two of them say something in the video about a camera that is coming... Z04 Flucht

By the way, Lumix for me means "value for money"... because they offer more features for less money than other brands... and a truly idea of the meaning of "hybrid" cameras... besides innovation...

I like the stories.

My first Lumix was an LX100, for the small size. Later on I was impressed with the GH4 because it was so popular for video, but I never quite got one. But I got the S1 when it was introduced; it had both the GH4 video features and full frame photos - for great hybrid capability. When the G9 added 10 bit video I got that as a companion to the S1. Since then I've had most every new Lumix introduced. The G9II, GH6, GH7, S1H, S5, S5II, SIIx, S9, S1II, S1RII and the L10. This is 14 Lumix cameras, which qualifies me as a Lumix fan. At the 25 year Lumix anniversary, I only have half that much Lumix time, but for me it has been a good ride.

My first LUMIX was the little FS3 p&s camera, purchased back in 2008. It performed so much better than other brand cameras that I'd bought before it (Canon, Olympus, Pentax) so I've stayed with Lumix ever since.

Sadly the FS3 was dropped and broke. The oldest camera I still have is the Lumix LX5 (purchased in 2010). It's in good working order and I have the hot shoe EVF. About a decade ago I purchased the GX85 and later a G95, then finally switched over to FF with the S5 and now S5ii and S9.

I have been eyeing the S1iie recently. I don't need it, but I like some of the body improvements they've made on the S1ii range.

This is true for me also. Although I wish Panasonic would enable BRAW recording to an external SSD. :)

My first Lumix was the GX9. After that came the GM1, the GX80 and the G9. Despite the fact that I used extensively the GX9 for photos and that the ergonomics of the G9 were just perfect, I was a bit tired of noise in low light situations and went full frame. I got the S5 and the S1R, that were very good for photography. But I started doing more and more video work, and I saw the limitations of contrast based autofocus for video, so I got the Lumix S5iix. Then I traded the S5 OG for a used S5ii, and months later the S1R for the S1RII. This last one is probably the best camera that I ever had...

A couple of months ago I traded the S5ii for a S1IIE, and it is really a joy to use. I use the Atomos Ultra Sync Blue for time code sincronization of the S1RII and the S1IIE and it works really well via Bluetooth for interviews. We keep the S5iix as a "C" camera and my wife's main camera and we are vey happy with the Lumix cameras. Regarding lenses, I am getting rid of the Lumix second hand lenses that I bought and changing them for new Lumix ones with 5 years warranty or Sigma ones with 6 years of warranty (here in Europe).

But, I think that Lumix will announce a new camera soon... So let's see if it is a potential EDC camera (S9ii) with EVF and mechanical shutter...

My first Lumix was a Lumix G6 with 14-140, 14/2.8, 20/1.7 and 25/1.4. The reason was that I had to reduce weight because I shattered two fingers on my right hand on the last day of 2013, and my Nikon D7000 + Tamron 17-50/2.8 and Tamron 70-300 VC were too damn heavy for that hand to hold. In 2017 replaced it with G80 with 12-60/3.5-5.6, later 12-60/2.8 and 100-300 II, and had a GX80 also for a while with 12-32, 15/1.7 and 45/1.8.

First I regretted that I had to let my Nikon heritage go, but really enjoyed the G6 too. Only the slow focussing and high iso penalty were a pain, and in dark situations really hated the choppy evf. But in good lighting really liked it. Especially that although slow focus, it was better in focus then the D7000. In 2021 I traded everything in and got Fuji X-S10. That was a huge upgrade. Actually the price and size of the G9 drove me out of Lumix.

After X-S10 I had a 2nd hand X-T4 for a while because I wanted WR for the Amazon, Desert in Peru etc. In the meantime my hand healed and came to the conclusion that I didn’t want 40+ mp on an Aps-c sensor, hated the dynamic range on the Fuji, and got my eye on a very good S5ii deal 10-2023. My return to Lumix. I actually wanted to buy into Nikon Z though.

I have experience with both BRAW and ProRes RAW and really find ProRes RAW to be superior. For me Panasonic made the right choice.

My Lumix journey: GH1, GH2, GH3, and now S5iiX.

I enjoyed using all of the GH cams, but have since sold them to KEH.com. Along the way I've also very much enjoyed owning & using Blackmagic's "Production Camera 4K" and "Pocket Camera 4K" (their camera model names are specific and odd), but I've also sold these to KEH.

For me, the S5iiX is a keeper. It checks every box I need (and can afford) in a stills camera, and checks most every box I need (and can afford) in a video camera ... except, as noted above, recording BRAW to an external SSD. (I'm not interested in recording BRAW to a relatively heavy external monitor-recorder.)

As previously mentioned, I'm considering getting a Blackmagic "Cinema Camera 6K", now that BMD has lowered its price. The full frame model. My main reasons being because it has an L-mount and can record BRAW both internally and to an external SSD (the latter being how I plan to use it). I'll use the same SSD I currently use with my S5iiX. Using both the S5iiX and CC6K together will be fun.

One of my favorite cinematographers who is very experienced using Blackmagic cameras (aside from my hero John Brawley :)) is Florent Piovesan. Here are some of Florent's CC6K videos:
