Roadtrip Italy

I'm taking a two week road trip (almost first week done) with my son to Italy and will try to post some pictures here as well. To not hijack the June and July image thread I will post them here. I try to do 3 pictures per significant place and/or day :) But don't call me on that.

First thing out of the way... I did not limit myself to which lenses to take with me. It's a road trip from home, with a family saloon car, with just two people, so no restrictions on gear this trip. However... it is so terrible hot here that I do limit myself to one lens per outing as I can't stand a backpack in 35+ celsius temperatures. If I use a backpack my back is wet in minutes. So I got a small backpack but in these conditions it is useless to me. My son doesn't bother the temperature so much and uses his backpack. But I don't want to burden him with lenses so he only takes the water bottles and snacks.

So I had to choose a single lens for every outing away from the car. For high profile places I took the S Pro 16-35 (Bologna, Florence, Ferrari museums, Pisa), 24-60 on walks in the forest and to Lucca, 24-105 to San Miniato and for today to Funicolare Montecatini as well. At one Airbnb we had a big garden with marvellous scenery on the Tuscany hills I used everything :).

I learned a lot about my preferences.. only in Florence I was too limited with the 16-35, I wish I had the 100mm with me, or at least the 24-60. The other thing I learned was that 24 is often wide-angle enough for me, but at least 20 would. So the best compromise might have been the 20-60 all along, but I do not really like the images and would take the 16-35 over it any day. I'm shooting a lot at F8, so 28-200 instead of the 24-105 will be a no brainer. I did use the 70-300 for some shots, and the vacation ain't over yet (almost half way).
