I am thinking about getting this zoom lens. How good is it?

I saw this Album in Flickr and now I am 90% convinced... Z04 975

I want it to take pictures of domestic animals, mainly. And some nature...

His other albums are nice too. A dutchy as well. Flickr is such a dangerous place. It feeds any form of GAS.

Look for a Channel called "Lost Lakes" on YouTube. Jon, the guy who runs it, shoots with an S5 and an S5ii, and a lot of his filming is with this very lens. For my money, it's one of the best looking wilderness channels out there.

I use this lens too, but only for sports. I really kike the image quality although it is not as good as the Sigma 70-200/2.8 sports.

But the 100-400 DG DN is heavy. Do not underestimate this, if you want to carry it the whole day. I am travelling in Asia currently. I have to check whether I have a few images on my smartphone. But I showed some images in the forum already.

Since I bought tge S1R2, I do not use my 100-400 anymore, because the 70-200/2.8 in combination with the cropping ability of 40MP makes the shorter zoom range more flexible for my use case in sports.

For wildlife etc. I think the 100-400 is really interesting. I have not decised yet, whether I will keep my 100-400. I can contact you after I return to Germany...

I have many many photo's from the lens on several L mount bodies, and when I moved to Sony it was one of the first lenses I bought in e mount. Always very happy with results, though perhaps not as polished as your chosen Flickr album, that's down to my skill level not the lens. Few samples - think mostly from the FpL

Thank you, I didn't know that channel.

Thank you, Dirk. Yes, the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 is the other option, but I think we will still use the 100-400mm with the S5ii and the S5iix.

If you decide to sell it, just tell me Z04 Flucht
