Used price of S5 vs S1

So in light of my recent eBay problem (see my other thread on this), I went to MPB to get a quote on my newly-returned S1. At the same time I asked for a quote for my S5 since there is an offer on the new S1iie that reduces its price to £1899 plus a 10% uplift voucher to an MPB sale. Anyhow, this is the MPB quote:

So, with the 10% uplift, I'd get £940 which would make the S1iie net out at £959. I'm sort of half tempted, but it's more than a little indulgent since I really only use the S5 as a backup and it does that job perfectly well.

But - what I found strange about the quote is that the S5 is valued higher than the S1. Except for its size, the S1 is the better camera in practically every department. Strange world.

If you're not in a rush, selling them yourself would net you a fair bit more. I just picked up an EX condition S1 and cheerfully paid 25% more than that quote. I've dealt with mpb many times and been satisfied, so only you can weigh price vs hassle for your case.

Just 25% difference between sell & buy in that price range is not much. I am not so sure about UK at the moment, but with these around 100£ differerence they need to cover
- all pre sales actions / checking activities
- inspection during arrival
- getting the device prepared for being sold
- preparation for shipping
- (in EU) one year wartenty
- in some cases customer service

So a lot of labor cost which does nor scale well ;-)
And a camera is a complex piece of equipment with a lot of components…

In regards the pricing difference S1 vs S5.
I assume this is based on the demand by the market. I guess most look for a cheap and light entry into the FF format or 2. camera. The old S1’s are a tanks of cameras, but this does not fit well for such purposed.
