I updated the firmware to 1.1 and set the camera to 'animal detection' 'eyes'. No other settings were changed.Which setting for focus sensitivity on the S1Rii did you use?
Yeah, I've had good results with the eye detect on my (stationary) dog as well - even with the eyes closed. All default settings.S1Rii - animal detect 1st attempt, Sigma 35mm f1.2 @ f1.8. Early evening, no lights on. Absolutely nailed focus on the eyes. Only need it for cats and planes.
Nice shot. Yeah, I've had great results with my stationary dog & eye recognition - even when his eyes are closed. However, dogs-in-motion I have had decent, but not fabulous, results with so far, although I am still learning.I took 200+ bird pictures at a zoological garden yesterday. I binned 16 which had missed focus on the eye. Lens is the Sigma 135mm f1.8 HSM, which probably would struggle to keep up with birds in flight, but focusing set on CAF, animal detect, eye, was better than anything else I've ever handled. (haven't handled a Sony though).

Do you like that 135? I've been wanting to get one for some time now.
