S1Rii loan this weekend

I got my S1Rii on Wednesday and put it to good use to catch a few people shots yesterday during an outing to London. This one, of yours truly with daughter, was taken by my wife and I really quite like it. With the Sigma 35mm f2.

  • Panasonic - DC-S1RM2
  • 35mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary 020
  • 35.0 mm
  • ƒ/2
  • 1/250 sec
  • Pattern
  • Auto exposure
  • ISO 80

BTW - I was in London to receive my French citizenship - this is me with the French Vice Consul at the French Consulate. Between us is my cher president!

So I can now stick two fingers up to Nigel Farage and the whole Brexit mess. I'm a European again!

It's a great photo Paul. The S1Rii produces beautiful images and of course the Sigma 35mm is hard to beat.

The family photo is really great. A lot of good atmosphere. Relaxed and with humor. I love it. Even in 20 years you will enjoy this photo with your daugther. It is not easy to get these kind of images if a non-photographer is taking the photo.

French citizenship? Do you have both citizenships now or did you switch?

It would be nice if Panasonic could add a pixel binning small raw option at around 24Mp.

Yes, that is really my wish #1 for the S1Rii. I wonder why they do not offer this. If Leica can do it, why not Panasonic?

Thank you for these in depth tests. The results make me relaxed and justify psychologically my S1Rii buying decision backwards also for my finance minister. She does not trust my judgement anymore... strange...

I think your wife needs to get hold of the camera more often... lovely happy image and congrats on your new citizenship, the urge for two fingers to Farage is strong here too:D.

Wow Paul is French citizen, that's a surprise! So besides being into landscape photography and owning a smattering of Lumix cameras and lenses, we have something else in common :)

As a half French half English (Brummie to be precise!), I can only sympathise with the anti Farage/Brexit views around here.

As this forum grows perhaps we need a dedicated French section (joking)? On peut échanger un peu en français si vous voulez :)

I even live near Birmingham (but I'm an ex scouser in fact!).

Pourquoi pas! Il existe un groupe sur Facebook pour les photographes Lumix francais:

I'm very pleased with how well the face/eye detection AF works on the S1Rii. The DOF from a 35mm lens at f2 and this close is very narrow but the eyes are in perfect focus. It's definitely faster and more reliable than the older CDAF/DfD cameras.

Thankfully, I can keep both. I think it's the same now with Germany isn't it?

She's into painting and has the eye for a good image - but she finds the technical side of photography not to her taste; for that I'm grateful - I don't need the competition!

Yes, it's pretty near the top of my list too for a new firmware feature.

I often get buyer's remorse with photo gear, but I'm feeling very comfortable with the S1Rii. It's just such an accomplished all round camera - and in a relatively small and light package. I think it'll do me for some time. The old S1R is a beautiful old girl, but it's big and heavy and its sensor doesn't hold up as well as more modern hi-res sensors. I'll be sad to see it go, but life moves on...

Sometimes I have both, buyers and sellers remorse. Should I have stayed in Fuji camp… nice more then good enough quality and compact. But you know, what stays in your mind are the good things if you enjoyed a camera (system). Or the bad things if you hated it, and you are glad you dumped it.

If I look at the L-Mount setup the thing I really miss is a succesor to the plastic fantastic slow Fuji 50-230 lens. Slow aperture, slow focus, but optically fine. Easy to bring it just in case (370g). And with 175€ used very cheap.

Those things missing sometimes gives me switch remorse :p

And then, because you can’t bring all the gear with vacation I sometimes also have gear choice remorse… There is so much remorse in our hobby, for what… Z04 Flucht

I am confident that with your S1Rii choice you will do just fine.

Yesterday I went to the "Photo and video days" of digitalstore.at in Vienna:

I was surprised because there were no stands or sales representatives from Lumix, while there were from Leica, Sony, Canon, Nikon, OM-System, Fuji, Sigma, Nisi, etc.

Anyway, I made use of this "Eintauschaktion alt gegen neu"

and traded the Lumix S1R and the S5 original for the Lumix S1Rii Z04 Flucht

Now we have in the family (and the company) the S5ii, the S5iix and the S1Rii. The next step is getting a good CFExpress type B card and a SSD device. Later will come the new BD2 battery grip.

Panasonic now offers a 5-year warranty in many European countries, including Austria, so I already have a camera for the next 5 to 10 years, because this is a camera ahead of its time and ahead of the competition...

Now I need time to do my homework and study the manual to configure everything to suit my photography and videography needs Z04 Breakdance.gif

Congratulations!!!

When I bought the S5ii I got 7 years warranty from the seller. Also for my 70-300. I registered last week with Panasonic and while the 100 macro immediately got 5 years at the Panasonic website, the new 24-60 did not. I have to contact them about it. But there registration system is flawed anyways. My 16-35 used buy got also 2 years from invoice date…
