A few "portraits" of a juvenile Cooper's hawk perched on my fence. These are 100% crops from the S1RII, Sigma 150-600 & 1.4x TC. Definitely the closest I've ever been to one of these majestic birds.

Did anyone manage to get a photo of the lunar eclipse on 7 September? It was partial when I say it here. This was with the fp L and 20-60 maxed out on digital zoom I think, propped on my window frame...it's a tiny file.

Here’s two aurora shots from the other night. I was up in Rocky Mountain National Park doing some astro with a friend, and I remembered the G1/G2 prediction. Turned around and there it was. It was not nearly as intense as it was in 2024, but still a nice bonus to the evening.
These were shot with my new Sigma 14/1.4 Art. It’s a beautiful lens - build quality seems even higher than other Art lenses I own - if you can believe that - and the optics are top-notch. It won’t be a commonly used lens - mostly for early spring astro, where the arch is easier to capture, but I could see using it for pre-planned “hero” landscape shots where I know 14mm is the focal length I want. Comparing it to the 14-24/2.8, it has substantially less distortion and that alone means it would be my choice if I have it in my bag. But again, it probably wont be unless I know I want 14mm.
You can see the tail of the Milky Way (only the tail is visible since I’m facing north) in this first shot.

I went for a ride in this train yesterday from Albury (regional city on the New South Wales / Victoria state border) to Cootamundra in NSW, a total of 216 kilometres through mostly rural farmland. Great fun for a rail fan.
The train is pictured here at Junee, the mid-point in the trip. The train was organised to raise funds for 'Can Assist', a charity that provides cancer assistance for people who live in rural NSW.

We had a large rail fan Festival this last weekend at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles. I just happened to meet one of the organizers and he was super enthusiastic about what a wonderful thing it was. I could only think of you Pete.

That looks like it would have been an awesome event Charles!
Many years ago my wife and I took the train from Union Station to the Bay Area near San Francisco. It was a great trip (about 10 hours from memory) and I loved the Union Station architecture.
In a few weeks time we will have a similar event in Sydney, the Transport Heritage Expo. I'll be there with the S5ii.
